Here at Anderson’s we have the privilege of living and working within the magnificent buildings of this highly regarded residential care home. We also have a responsibility to maintain and preserve the structures for the benefit of future generations.
However, the design and fabric of the old building presents both operational and financial challenges. Anderson’s has strategic plans for internal modernisation, operational and energy efficiencies, and external maintenance.
The first key project we undertook was the provision of a new modern Lift, several times the capacity of the first lift installed in 1961. This was a major investment that will make a tremendous difference to the operation of the home and the daily lives of residents. The construction of the lift would not have been possible without the wonderful support form our major donors and all those generous individuals who have made it possible. The lift will be able to carry 6 people or two wheelchairs with assistants. The old lifts will remain operational for a while until everyone gets used to using the new facility.
Moving Forward
We are about to begin another project focused on improving the décor of both Anderson’s main building and Easton House. Glasgow School of Art twill be carrying out a research project and from that will produce design options. We will engage with residents, their families and staff as part of the design process.
We are now seeking funding to implement what we hope will be an innovative and contemporary design which will make Anderson’s more welcoming and attractive.
As Anderson’s is a charity, there are opportunities to apply to a range of funding bodies for particular projects which fall within the scope of our aims and strategic plan.
We also have a dedicated committee of volunteers who plan fundraising events throughout the year solely for the benefit of our residents and home. New members are always welcome and encouraged to bring any fundraising ideas to the committee.
Friends of Anderson’s exists to ensure that residents have the very best possible quality of life. To accomplish this Friends join in social events and clubs such as the Gardening Club and Craft Club; Act as escorts when Residents are attending away days and outside events.
Fund raising is a core focus. A number of activities are organised each year including an annual Daffodil Tea in April, an event in December and usually one other during the summer months. The 200 Club generates a steady monthly income. The funds raised enable the purchase of equipment to enhance the well-being of the Residents. In addition, a quarterly allowance is provided for the Activities Organiser to enable costs to be met for entertainment, purchase of craft items, games and other materials.
Friends of Anderson’s have led and delivered some major projects including the Courtyard Garden and Heritage Garden.
